In all Western and Eastern European countries, the volume and most important characteristics of all outbound trips are survey with a standard questionnaire based on surveys representative of the population. Over 400.000 Europeans are interviewed in 30 countries every year.

In addition to the number of foreign trips, the following travel characteristics are surveyed:

> Destination countries

> Purpose of trip (holiday, business etc)

> Type of holiday

> Accommodation

> Transportation

> Spending

> Duration

> Booking

> Use of Internet

> Demographic description of travelers

The European Travel Monitor is a unique tourism data bank and no other surveys or official statistics offer such comprehensive and directly comparable data about the travel demand and travel behaviour of all Europeans.

The size of the samples, together with the frequency of the surveys, guarantees the reliability of the travel monitor data.

The European Travel Monitor is designed for as a basic tool for developing marketing strategies and taking marketing decision in tourism and is financed as a multi-client study which again means that tailor made travel data packages can be delivered for reasonable and fair prices.

Under the name of the World Travel Monitor (WTM)® The European Travel Monitor has expanded its survey to other countries since 1995. Today, WTM has similar data available on the USA, Canada, Brazil, the Arabic countries, Morocco, Japan, China, Hong Kong, India, Singapore and other Asia/Pacific  countries.
